The New York Times reports physical, occupational and neurological therapists are looking into Wii Golf as a means of helping their patients, due to some of the easy movements that can make a big difference.
“It really is helpful as an adjunct to what we do in physical therapy,” Dean Beasley, the director of inpatient rehabilitation at Doctors Hospital, told the news provider. “It allows the patient to put into practical application what they’ve done in therapy and, in some cases, it helps them know if they could still play golf.”
The article suggests that patients could practice their balance while playing the game, as it causes them took at the screen while using the wand.
Balance is important, particularly for seniors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly one-third of seniors experience a fall each year. Improving their balance could help lessen these instances.
